Is the Honeybee Vaccine Safe?

Is the Honeybee Vaccine Safe?

In January 2023, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the approval of the first-ever vaccine for honeybees designed to prevent American foulbrood disease. This fatal bacterial disease can destroy entire honeybee colonies, posing a significant threat to agriculture and the environment.

The USDA issued a "conditional vaccine license" to Diamond Animal Health, the collaborating bio-tech manufacturer for Dalan Animal Health, on December 29, 2022.

“We hope the availability of this product will aid in the prevention and/or treatment of the disease American foulbrood in honeybees given their central role in American agriculture (e.g., pollination),” said the USDA.

How Does the Vaccine Work?

In a January 4 statement, Dalan Animal Health explained that the primary treatment method for American foulbrood disease has traditionally been incinerating infected bees and hives, alongside antibiotic treatments.

Dalan’s CEO, Annette Kleiser, called the vaccine "a breakthrough in protecting honeybees."

“Global population growth and changing climates will increase the importance of honeybee pollination to secure our food supply,” said Kleiser. “We are ready to change how we care for insects, impacting food production on a global scale.”

Unlike traditional vaccines, this honeybee vaccine is not injected with a syringe. Instead, it’s mixed into "queen feed," which the worker bees consume. The worker bees then incorporate the vaccine into royal jelly, which they feed to the queen bee. Once the queen bee has consumed the vaccine-laden royal jelly, "fragments of the vaccine are deposited in her ovaries," says Dalan. This allows the queen’s larvae to be born with immunity to the disease.

The vaccine became available for use in the United States in 2023.

So, if we are to understand this correctly, the vaccine becomes part of the queen bees food which in turn becomes part of the Royal Jelly which in turn becomes part of the honey which we humans would consume.

This begs a few questions from us…

  1. Is this vaccine safe for human consumption?
  2. Has this vaccine been studied on humans or animals?
  3. What concentrations of residual vaccine chemicals are found in honey or other bee products from treated hives?
  4. Does the application of this vaccine affect the designation of Organic Honey?

Since American foulbrood disease is technically a bacterial infection rather than a viral disease, could alternative solutions like PureWave™ Cells offer a better solution? PureWave™ technology has been scientifically proven to kill or neutralize harmful bacteria within minutes.

Beekeepers using PureWave™ Cells have never recorded a single case of AFB in their hives. These beekeepers have not needed to use antibiotics or vaccines to maintain healthy colonies.

Is the USDA aware that our beekeepers using PureWave™ Cells have never recorded a single case of AFB in their hives nor have they used any antibiotics or “vaccines”?

Would RFK Jr. and the new leadership of the USDA be interested in the PureWave™  technology for bees? We think so.

Regardless of how these questions may addressed, only you can decide what’s best for you and your family. This is why it’s important to consider where you purchase your honey because even your small local beekeeper may be using harmful chemicals and antibiotics in their beehives.

Only PureWave™ Raw Energized Honey is made without the need for chemicals, vaccines or antibiotics and neurotoxins plus every jar goes to helping save and protect more bees.

This is the 4RBees difference!
